Geerten Oelering joins Tacstone Technology

Welcome to Tacstone Talks! We’re pleased to introduce Geerten to you. Geerten is the latest addition to the Tacstone Technology team and quite exceptional. Never before have we onboarded someone with such an impressive track record in the world of software development, (cloud) architecture, and security.

Geerten, who are you and what have you done before this?

“I’m Geerten Oelering, a genuine enthusiast of cloud computing but also not averse to well-considered On-Prem solutions. As a technical conscience, I’ve always made myself useful across a broad spectrum of ICT infrastructure, software development, operations, and sales in my previous roles.” Geerten explains that his focus naturally lies in developing smart and innovative, but above all, reliable and secure solutions. He shares, “Even though my work often involves developing solutions with cutting-edge technology, I’ll never lose sight of important requirements such as data privacy and security.”

Geerten has held various leadership roles at companies including the first mobile operator in the Netherlands (CallMax), mobile app developer Ubiworks, e-commerce search and merchandising provider Fredhopper, and at AcceptEasy, which was acquired a few years ago by the originally German FinTech Serrala.”

Why did you choose Tacstone Technology?

“In my final period at AcceptEasy/Serrala, the ‘mission accomplished’ feeling started to surface. And then my antennae automatically go up, searching for a new role in preferably a young, ambitious organization with a clear vision and a promising product. And especially an organization where I can personally contribute something from my specific experience.”

At Tacstone Technology, Geerten found this match. And not only in terms of product and services, but also on a personal level. “During the shared lunch, conversations range from complex Intelligent Automation issues to international shared dining recipes, from Cloud migrations to training schedules for a marathon, and everything in between,” he adds.

What will be your role within Tacstone Technology?

“In my new role, I’ll have plenty of opportunities to delve deep and there’s ample room for my input. This includes preparing and guiding migration processes from on-premises automation platforms to the cloud, for both existing and new clients. Or implementing new innovative cloud services to replace specific custom solutions and minimize manual work.”

A significant part of Geerten’s work will involve advising and supporting on issues related to complex infrastructures, information security, and certification.

“My involvement isn’t limited to external clients alone; internally, I’ve also been entrusted with the responsibility for a secure and reliable ICT infrastructure. Additionally, I’m sinking my teeth into the project initiated before my arrival, which is soon expected to result in ISO27001 and NEN7510 certification. It’s a challenge I’m embracing with full dedication, leveraging my knowledge and experience to the fullest.”

Lastly, how do you view the developments in our market?

“It’s funny to find myself back in the fascinating world of process automation after many years. Back in the era of Eurodance and Elho Freestyle ski suits (who remembers those?), we achieved this by incorporating macros within the application to automate tasks as best as possible. This allowed us to extend the functionality of the few applications we had to better meet our needs.”

“Nowadays, it’s quite different. There’s an app available for almost everything our clients do. And I love those apps too.” Geerten smiles as he shows his coffee mug, which can be adjusted in temperature with an app. “Imagine having the best app for every functionality, where everything seamlessly works together. Wouldn’t it be great if old legacy systems, yes, even those from the Eurodance era, could still be useful with modern extensions for a secure and efficient working environment? The repetitive activities that require no or only artificial intelligence would have already been taken care of!”

Geerten sees this as the theme of Intelligent Automation and believes there are significant opportunities for Tacstone Technology in this area. “What appeals to me is that the investments made by our clients in the past don’t need to be discarded like trash. Instead, we can find smart, meaningful additions to the ICT they already have, with a secure setup and less maintenance, making their employees happy.”
